Totoro Crochet Leg Warmers

Image
These were my first lcrochet leg warmer design!  My Neighbour Totoro is actually my 3 rd favourite Studio Ghibli movie. Princess Mononoke and Pom Poko (severely underrated) narrowly top it 💫 But the character of Totoro himself is iconic and memorable, so putting this pattern together was easy enough. It did include some maths to make sure the cream belly could come out correctly within a made to measure setting (to be inclusive for my fellow large calf peoples, I know the struggles). Was definitely worth it! It’s a lovely autumn-y pattern that can be made for adults or kids, for cosplay or everyday wear. A cute lil grey/white co-ord outfit would fit perfectly. This pattern is available on my  Ko-Fi  and Ravelry ! Would like to maybe make more Studio Ghibli themed crochet outifts/accessories.

Fibre Artist Diaries: #4

This is a summary post after my initial 3 Sentro experiments. The data scientist within me decided to put the results into a table. Pin number Results 35 Too small even with stretch, additional side panels had to be created to fit body. 40 Perfect sizing, with some blocking 43 Not terrible but enough bunching of material when wearing to warrant decreasing pin size   I’ve also been trying to understand the DK vs Aran yarn machine preference.  Some people swear that you should only be using DK yarn the Sentro but imo, I feel like for clothing it can be quite thin and see through. This is fine for a coverup at the beach but not for day-to-day wear.  I mainly own DK yarn, so I purchased some cheap acrylic Aran yarn to see how it went. It didn’t glide as easily on the machine as the DK yarn, but it created denser panel which I’d feel more confident wearing. You could als...

For my third and last Sentro experimental top, I used 40 pins to create my two panels. No crochet bra cups though this time. 50 rows instead this time, it fit pretty great once I blocked it to be 14” by 13”. I did stretch it to the max👯, so probably to make the panel denser I’d add an extra 5 rows next time for the ideal cropped length top. The yarn I used this time was an acrylic Aran yarn, instead of DK. Less see-through , so yay!💫 Photos of all makes to come, but next up will be a lil summary of my experiments and general thoughts.

For my second Sentro experiment, I used 43 pins to create my panels but I also crocheted horizontal bra cups for a fusion piece.   I made the panels 70 rows long, which in hindsight was a bit long for a top that has crocheted bra cups already.   I’d say the pin size is okay but there is some bunching so it could be better with a slightly smaller pin number.

Currently I’m on a mission to improve my circular machine knitting skills, mainly to make more Sentro x crochet pieces for the summer. 💕🌞 Unlike crochet, it’s hard to figure out sizing for panels you’ll need on the Sentro as you go along with the project. I feel like measuring items on the machine isn’t that helpful (or I’m doing it wrong, lol). So I’ve been practicing making top panels with a different number of pins to see what my ideal fit is (for a UK Large) . For this post, I’m looking at my 35-pin attempt. The pink is pretty; however the panels were too small T.T In hindsight I probably should have blocked them but considering I used DK yarn it would have made them almost see through…. Instead, I decided to create a 2.5 inch wide crochet panel along the sides of each Sentro panel to make the top fit properly. I got a bit overexcited and decide to create a vine tapestry pattern for this, to add a bit of pizzazz . 💖 Was it cute? Hell yes! Did the thick crochet pane...

Queer x Star Trek Tapestry Patterns

Image
Following on from my earlier post, I decided to put together some colour block charts and tapestry graphs for other queer Star Trek fans to crochet their own versions. Here is an example of one quick graph I put together. If you'd like to see more Star Trek Flags, check out the FREE pattern on my Ko-fi! https://ko-fi.com/s/9ee6f88462

Bisexual Pride x Star Trek Pattern

Image
Happy Pride Month!  Technically, I'm a bit late posting this midway through June but better late than never.  As both a sci-fi aficionado (nerd) and chaotic bisexual, I cooked up this pattern on Stitchfiddle probably over a year ago after having some leftover yarn in the appropriate colours. I believe this was after making my Bisexual butterfly crochet top for Pride.   I'm putting this pattern out for FREE for any fellow queer star trek lovers to enjoy. https://ko-fi.com/s/d5d20caaac FUN FACT: Jake Sisko, the son of the best StarFleet Captain (Benjamin Sisko), was born in San Francisco on 12th June 2355.

Jojo's Bizarre Tapestry Pattern

Image
Anyone that knows me, knows I love love love Jojo's Bizarre Adventures. Took me a hot sec to vibe with it, but it's so bizarre and random, it's hard not to love.  If you haven't watched it yet and love anime, you should definitely give it a go. The symbol in this tapestry is a symbol for "menacing", used often in the manga/show. I made it in the signature purple and if you look closely you can see the surface crochet I did over the tapestry piece to help it pop. It was the perfect addition to the fandom wall I've slowly been building over the past year or so. You can get this pattern for FREE on my Ko-fi, linked below: https://ko-fi.com/s/5edffd3163
